🏆
20-year guarantee
Manufacturer's warranty on every tray when installed to the supplied specification.

The WetBase® Linear is manufactured from a lightweight XPS foam core with a cementitious top coat, giving a non-porous, tile-ready surface. The pre-formed fall means no screeding on site. Each kit is supplied complete with a McAlpine fast-flow drain assembly, stainless steel grill, and reversible channel cover. A tanking kit to seal all floor and wall joints is required but not included as standard — available as an optional add-on at checkout.

The defining feature is the installer-positioned drain outlet. During installation, the installer selects the best position for the waste pipe connection and drills a 51mm hole at that point anywhere along the drain channel. The drain trap assembly is then fitted and connected via a 43mm solvent weld waste pipe. On timber-joisted floors — where joist positions are fixed and immovable — this removes one of the most common complications in wet room installation. Once drilled, the outlet position is fixed.

The channel cover is reversible: one side presents a brushed finish in your chosen colour; the other is designed to be tiled over for a near-seamless floor finish. More than one outlet can be drilled along the channel if increased flow is required. The tray can also be trimmed on site using a handsaw — up to 50mm per side, removing equal amounts from opposite sides to keep the channel central.

Timber floor note: The WetBase® Linear tray is 30mm thick. Standard floorboards are approximately 20mm thick, so the tray will typically sit 10mm above the surrounding floor when installed. 10mm tile backer board should be laid over the surrounding floor area to bring it level with the top of the tray before tanking and tiling. The exact thickness required may vary — check before ordering.

Product & Specification
What is a wet room former?
A wet room former, also called a wet room shower tray or floor base, is a factory-made panel that is recessed into the floor structure to create a level-access shower area. It is manufactured with the required drainage fall pre-formed at the point of manufacture, so no on-site screeding is required. The WetBase Linear is constructed from an XPS foam core with a cementitious top coat and is suitable for tiled finishes only.
What is the difference between WetBase Linear and WetBase Standard?
WetBase Standard uses a central point drain, while WetBase Linear features a linear channel drain running across the tray. The channel drain gives a cleaner, more contemporary drainage line and, importantly, the waste outlet is installer-positioned during installation, allowing the waste pipe connection to be placed at any point along the channel. This is a particular advantage on timber-joisted floors where joist positions may obstruct a fixed-position outlet.
What sizes are available?
WetBase Linear is available in 10 sizes ranging from 900 x 900mm up to 1700 x 1000mm. Each tray can also be trimmed on site by up to 50mm per side if a precise fit to the shower area is required. Visit wetrooms-online.com/collections/wetbase-linear-wet-room-kit to browse all available sizes, or call 0800 280 8008 for sizing advice.
What drain channel finishes are available?
Eight matched drain channel finishes are available to complement different tile choices and design schemes. The channel cover is reversible - one side accepts standard use, and the other is designed to be tiled over to create a near-seamless floor finish where the drain is barely visible. Maximum tile thickness when using the tileable cover is 10mm.
Is the former pre-formed or do I need to screed?
The drainage fall is built into the WetBase Linear at the point of manufacture - no on-site screeding is required. The XPS foam core and cementitious top coat are non-porous, so the surface is ready to tile over directly without the need for a primer or additional preparation.
Does the kit include the drain?
Yes. Each WetBase Linear kit is supplied complete with a McAlpine fast-flow drain assembly, stainless steel grill, and reversible channel cover. A tanking kit to waterproof the joints between the tray and surrounding walls is required but is not included as standard - this is available as an optional add-on when ordering.
The Installer-Positioned Outlet
How does the drain outlet work on the WetBase Linear?
The WetBase Linear has a linear drain channel running across the tray. During installation, the installer selects the best outlet position and drills a 51mm hole at that point anywhere along the channel. The drain trap assembly is fitted into the drilled hole and connected to the waste pipe using a 43mm solvent weld waste pipe. Once the tray is laid, the outlet position is fixed and cannot be changed. More than one outlet hole can be drilled along the channel if increased flow is required.
Why is an installer-positioned outlet better than a fixed outlet?
On timber-joisted floors, joist positions are fixed and cannot be moved. If a tray with a fixed drain outlet is positioned so that the outlet falls directly over a joist, significant remedial structural work is required before the tray can be installed correctly. With the WetBase Linear, the installer drills the outlet at any point along the channel to suit the actual joist layout - avoiding obstructions entirely without any structural compromise.
Can I reposition the outlet after installation?
No. The outlet position is chosen and drilled during installation. Once the hole has been cut and the tray is laid and bedded into place, the outlet position is permanently fixed. The correct position must be identified before installation begins.
Installation
What sub-floors is the WetBase Linear suitable for?
The WetBase Linear is suitable for installation on both timber and concrete sub-floors. It is not suitable for installation directly onto joists - adequate support must be provided beneath the full footprint of the tray in all cases.
What do I need to install the WetBase Linear on a timber floor?
On a timber floor, the floorboards are removed from the tray area and 18mm marine ply panels are fitted between the joists to create a fully supported, even base. Support runners are fixed 18mm down each side of the joists to carry the ply panels. Because the WetBase Linear tray is 30mm thick and standard floorboards are approximately 20mm thick, 10mm tile backer boards are laid over the surrounding floor area to bring it level with the top of the tray. A tanking kit is then applied to all joints and wall connections before tiling.
Can I tile straight onto the WetBase Linear?
Yes. The cementitious top coat is non-porous and ready to tile over directly - no primer is required. A minimum tile thickness of 10mm is recommended. Mosaic tiles or large-format tiles cut to follow the contours of the tray (using an envelope cut) are recommended for best results.
Is the WetBase Linear compatible with underfloor heating?
Yes, the WetBase Linear is compatible with underfloor heating systems.
Can the WetBase Linear be cut to size?
Yes. The tray can be trimmed on site by up to 50mm per side using a handsaw. Equal amounts must be removed from opposite sides - for example, to reduce a dimension by 50mm in total, 25mm should be cut from each opposing side rather than 50mm from one side alone. This keeps the drain channel central within the tray.
Do I need a professional installer?
Wet room installation involves cutting into the floor structure, connecting waste pipework, and applying tanking to waterproof the shower area - work that is typically carried out by a qualified wet room or bathroom installer, or a highly competent DIY'er.
After Installation
What is the guarantee on the WetBase Linear?
The WetBase Linear carries a 20-year manufacturer's guarantee. The guarantee applies when the tray has been installed correctly and strictly in accordance with the supplied fitting instructions.
Does cutting the tray to size affect the guarantee?
Cutting the tray within the permitted limits - up to 50mm from each side, with equal amounts taken from opposing sides - does not void the guarantee, provided the tray is installed in full accordance with the fitting instructions. Cutting beyond these limits or removing material unevenly may affect the guarantee.
Ordering
How do I choose the right size WetBase Linear?
Measure the planned shower area and select the nearest available size from the range of 10 sizes. Bear in mind that the tray can be trimmed by up to 50mm per side on site if a close fit is needed. You should also consider the drain position configuration - End Drain or Long Side Drain - based on where you intend the channel to sit within the shower area. If you need guidance, call 0800 280 8008 and our team will help you choose.
Can I order a custom size?
WetBase Linear is not available in custom sizes. The range covers 10 standard sizes from 900 x 900mm to 1700 x 1000mm, and each tray can be trimmed on site by up to 50mm per side to achieve a closer fit where required.
How quickly will my order arrive?
Orders placed before 2pm are dispatched the same day and typically arrive within 2 working days. Delivery within this timeframe is our aim - it is not a guaranteed service.
