Impey WaterGuard® is a self-adhesive tanking membrane that provides a faster, easier method of waterproofing a wet room floor or wall before tiling. It features a fleece membrane with a self-adhesive butyl rubber backing on one side and a co-polymer surface on the other — the co-polymer surface means installers can work on the membrane without getting stuck to it, and it provides a key for the tile adhesive once fitted.

At just 1mm thick, WaterGuard is strong, flexible, and versatile, with superior crack-bridging properties — tested to absorb up to 5mm of lateral movement caused by the shifting and drying of floors over time. It has been tested to provide superior waterproofing capability, holding a 150mm head of water over a series of weeks with no leak. Unlike some other systems, it is not sensitive to chemicals — it can be used with epoxy grout and solvent-based sealers for stone tiles.

Because the membrane cannot be overlapped, a 150mm-wide jointing tape is supplied to create a watertight seal at every joint. Floor kits also include pre-formed, sealed internal and external corners, removing the time-consuming process of hand-forming corners. A butyl sealant is included in every kit as standard — ready to use, and also handy for repairing any small holes in the membrane if it's ever damaged. Pre-printed grid lines on the membrane make it easy to measure and trim accurately on site.

Unlike many other tanking systems, WaterGuard can be tiled as soon as it has been fitted — there is no curing time to wait for, saving both installation time and cost. WaterGuard is fully compatible with 150w/m² underfloor heating systems.
